## Content

To meet the diverse needs of floor plan design and enrich outdoor spaces, you can use the external area tool to quickly create courtyards, terraces, and other areas outside existing rooms on the floor plan. These areas will be presented as independent slabs without ceilings or walls, while retaining basic room attributes. You can modify the room names as needed. External areas stay in the same project as the interior rooms, so you can edit the entire layout in the [**floor plan creator**](https://www.coohom.com/case/floor-planner).

Open the External Area Tool
===========================

On the **Floor Plan** page, click **External Area** in the material panel on the left.

Draw an External Area
=====================

1. Enter the external area drawing page. Use the tools in the top toolbar to create the desired area. Once completed, click **Finish** in the top right corner.

2. Switch to **3D** view to check the effect.

* Note: The external area feature involves using the top tools to draw a closed area, forming an independent slab without ceilings or walls as an external area.

3. Click on the external area to modify the **Room Name** in the property panel on the right.

* Note: Essentially, the external area is treated as a room with room attributes. You can set the room name, but the room type as outdoor cannot be changed.

Notes
=====

1. The outline of the external area can only be drawn outside existing rooms and cannot intersect with them.

2. Walls of rooms cannot intersect with the outline of the external area; you can only draw a new room within the external area.
